With Kashtin, Florent Vollant recorded 3 albums, made seven videos, won 4 Félix awards and toured more than 6 countries. As a member of Kashtin or a a solo artist, he collaborated to many projetcs, including Instinct by Richard Séguin, the film soundtrack for Le silence des fusils by Arthur Lamothe and Robbie Robertson’s album The Native Americans.
During the past two years, he built a recording studio and a music school for young musicians around his native village of Maliotenam. He reocorded with Richard Séguin, Zachary Richard, Luce Dufault, Ray Bonneville and Lucien Gabriel Jourdain – Nipaiamianan, a Christmas album in innu, Juno award winer for best native album in 2001.
Katak means « we come from far et go a long way» in innu. The album is made up of original material in 3 languages – french, english and innu – created by Florent in collaboration with a myriad of artists : Claude Péloquin, Richard Séguin, Marc Déry, Willy Mitchell, Claude McKenzie, Ray Bonneville, Sylvain Michel, Lucien Gabriel Jourdain and many others. He sings in French for the first time. Alone on masterpiece « Grain de nacre » written by Zachary Richard or in duet with Quebec superstar Éric Lapointe « Loup blanc », the results are astounding.
